As women age, hormonal changes can lead to a variety of health challenges, including an underactive thyroid.  Some of the common symptoms experienced with an underactive thyroid is fatigue, weight gain, difficulty losing weight, thinning hair, hair loss, muscle cramps and aches, constipation and bloating, irritability, memory loss, abnormal menstrual cycles, severe menopause symptoms, decreased libido, cold intolerance and even depression.  In this post, we’ll explore 3 important strategies to get you started with nourishing your thyroid and support your overall well-being.


Whole Foods - are foods that are nutrient dense.  Incorporating fruits, vegetables, good quality protein and healthy fats; foods like leafy greens, berries, nuts, seeds, and quality protein including wild fish rich in Omega 3’s are all beneficial for thyroid health.


Support Gut Health - a healthy gut is very important for hormone balance.  Eliminating processed foods and introducing natural, alive and good quality foods that reduce gut inflammation, dysbiosis and leaky gut can support thyroid health. 

  

Manage Stress - chronic stress can exacerbate thyroid health. Incorporating stress-reducing practices such as walking in nature, yoga or journaling. Regular physical activity is also soothing for the hormones.


Improving thyroid health can include a holistic approach. By including whole foods, supporting gut health and managing stress, these are a few of the many proactive steps that can be taken towards supporting your thyroid function and overall wellness.
